Miley Cyrus is an American performing artist who became a cultural phenomenon as the star of the hit Disney Channel sitcom ‘Hannah Montana,’ in 2006. She has since had a successful career as a pop music singer. The show, which featured Miley as a teenager living a double life as a pop star, catapulted her into the spotlight.

Miley took a leaf from the playbook of other child stars who transitioned to adulthood by reinventing their image. She followed in the footsteps of other Disney stars, like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and embraced a highly sexualized and provocative persona. In 2013, she released the hip-hop-influenced album “Bangerz,” marking a significant departure from the sugar-pop songs of her childhood. Her trademark haircut, bold red lip, and bad girl persona during this era bore a striking similarity to Rihanna’s look at the time.

Miley explored fusing pop music with other genres on her following albums, shedding the skin of her “Bangerz” persona and moving on the psychedelic “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” (2015) and the rock-inspired “Plastic Hearts” (2020). Miley’s strong vocal instrument endowed her with an ability to add her personal touch to popular music trends of yesteryear.
